A Note from the Executive Director

Onward

God does what we cannot do. In the church we call this grace, and we pray that God's grace will abound. At Men's Ministries International we want to see God's grace at work in men and women around the world. John Wesley gave us a wonderful theological framework for God's grace including prevenient grace, justifying grace, and sanctifying grace. We believe that God draws and woos people into the Kingdom of heaven. We believe that God washes away our sins and justifies people by faith. We believe that God sets people free to live and grow in holy love. This is grace.

God does what we cannot do. We are excited about what God is doing. We are asking God for more - more Schools of Evangelism, more evangelists for 2 Timothy 2:2, more containerized shipments for world missions and more men and women to help in Craftsmen For Christ.

* MMI (in cooperation with WMI) is sending containers to Hope Africa University in Kenya and is working to send a container to Hope Academy in Nigeria. Pray for grace.

* MMI is conducting Schools of Evangelism in the Philippines and India. Pray for grace.

* MMI is gearing up for Craftsmen projects in Illinois, Kentucky, and Michigan. Pray for grace.

* MMI is exploring evangelist endeavors in Greece, Hungary, and the Philippines through 2 Timothy 2:2. Pray for grace.

In this issue of our newsletter we are highlighting the Schools of Discipleship and 2 Timothy 2:2. We are here to serve you and Free Methodists around the world. May the Lord continue to bless you as you serve Him.

Grace and peace,
Reverend Dr. Jeffrey P. Johnson
Executive Director

Men's Ministries International Board and Officers

A Word from the President

"I will give them singleness of heart and put a new spirit within them. I will take away their hearts of stone and give them tender hearts.." - Ezekial 11:19 NIV

I believe that Free Methodist Men's Ministries are on the threshold of a great revival! In the Old Testament, they were told to "look to the nations, watch and be utterly amazed, for I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told." (HABAKKUK 1:5 NIV ) In the Prayer of Jabez, we are encouraged "to reach boldly for a miracle." I believe Free Methodist men are being called to pray that God will move in America. When He moves, we must be prepared to minister to a multitude of hungry men who will be seeking answers on how they can get close to the Lord. I believe that Free Methodist men must covenant to pray without ceasing for the Holy Spirit to empower our pastors, who in turn will lead us on this Great Revival. Men's Ministries International must find ways to connect with other men in the local church toward producing fruit-bearing and spiritually-thriving men. These men will then be prepared to meet the challenges of a Great Revival. We must get all men involved with other men to create relationships that emphasize accountability. Most men are doers, not talkers. If you want men to talk, give them something to do!

Free Methodist Men's Ministries International was featured in the Light and Life magazine's World View section in the March-April 2002 issue. The in depth feature articles on the ministries of MMI were a boost to getting the word out about what we are all about. Because MMI is a self-supporting ministry, it depends totally on the willingness of those who are faithful to financially support us, as we share Jesus and minister to many peoples around the world. MMI was blessed to end 2001 in the black, and we have faith that the Lord will continue supplying the finances to fund the programs and staff needed. Since the Lord Jesus is our sole-provider in meeting our financial obligations, our hope is that He will encourage men across the Free Methodist Church to help us meet these needs.

Our annual partnership contribution is $25.00, Share Partners give $15.00 monthly, and President's Club members generally send gifts ranging from $250.00 to $1000.00 annually. Thank you and God bless you for helping us minister to needy men and their families.

 Sincerely His servant,
Jim Stetler, MMI President

Schools of Evangelism

Directed by Lucien Behar

john812@juno.com

Trainers: Lucien Behar and Ken Walls

Mark 1:17 Jesus said to them, 'Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.' MMI is helping pastors and lay persons around the world reach out to many lost people through SCHOOLS OF EVANGELISM.

When Molly and I were in the Philippines last August, God gave us a vision of what we could do to help the Philippines General Conference plant 250 new churches by 2015. We know that unless lay men and lay women become soul winners, their plan to plant so many churches cannot be realized.

This vision was to train several evangelists to do SCHOOLS OF EVANGELISM throughout the Philippines. Well, Praise the Lord, we have now trained twelve evangelists to do these Schools starting June 2002. This program will cost approximately $20,000 over the next 28 months. Our plan is to provide honorariums and travel expenses plus the expenses for the host churches. In addition we plan to have all the teaching materials including the New Life for You booklets translated and printed into Subwano and Tagolog by June 1st.

Bishop Jim Tuan, our Philippine bishop, and the Philippine leadership are so excited about this that they also took the training and are making all the necessary preparations for the launching of this program in June. We are now talking about coming back next year to follow-up on the evangelists and to help them with any problem areas. Let us pray that the Lord will direct and provide for every aspect of this ministry.

Molly and I will be traveling to many mission fields this year. With this increased schedule, Reverend Ken Walls, newly designated Pittsburgh Conference Evangelist, is assuming more responsibility as a Trainer for MMI's SCHOOLS OF EVANGELISM. Ken has been trained and is an enthusiastic and valuable member of the SCHOOLS OF EVANGELISM team. He will be available to conduct these schools all over the United States and Canada. You may contact him at: Rev. Ken Walls, 106 Sheldon Avenue, Fairchance, PA 15436 Phone: (724) 564-2925. Ken will have email later this summer, and his address will on the MMI website when available. You may contact the MMI office at the World Ministries Center as well (800-342-5531).

Operation II Timothy 2:2

Directed by Mark Whitlock
whitlock @eosinc.com

Operation 2 Timothy 2:2 assists evangelists and church planters to make true disciples of Jesus around the world. Evangelizing and starting a new church is always a difficult task and the lack of a strong support group can make it even harder. In many areas there simply are no available funds to promote evangelism because of harsh economic conditions. We are able to be the outside support group with prayer and finances to enable gifted men and women to better use their time in building the Kingdom by lightening the load of supporting their families.

Primarily we work outside the U.S. and Canada but we help indigenous people everywhere. In fact, one of the great strengths of the program is that we assist people to take Jesus to their own people or nations and in their own languages; this means they do not have to learn a new culture before they can effectively begin. It also more rapidly builds the local church into a strong group of believers.

We always put a major emphasis on those who can train others in evangelism, multiplying and extending the Good News of Jesus is the essence of 2 Timothy 2:2 "What you have heard from me in the presence of reliable witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others."

Central Africa, India, and the Philippines were primary areas of activity in the past but now we are also reaching new nations in Eastern and Southern Europe and various other parts of Asia.

Director Mark Whitlock operates a construction material supply company in the Midwest. He is very active in his local FM church and serves as conference director of Growth Ministries as well as Vice President of MMI. His wife, Karen, is church organist and his sons are leaders in their respective church groups.

 David Gonzales, Director
DLG361@aol.com

I was born to a Mexican father and an American mother of Mexican decent, learning Spanish and English at home. Later my first language became English. I came to the Lord in a Spanish speaking Free Methodist Church. God has a way of bringing us back to our roots. My wife, Lily, grew up in a Free Methodist Church. I have been active in our local church, conference and now in MMI.

Lily and I enjoy telling people about Christ. Our ministry started with children, then youth, and now with adults. We have four children (three sons and one daughter). All of them are active in the church we attend, New Hope Christian Fellowship in Chino, CA.

For 35 years I have driven an 18-wheeler. Where ever I drive, I always find somebody to tell about Jesus. MMI has opened a new door for me. Men matter to God, and men need to know it! I thank the Lord, MMI gave me an opportunity to be a small part of something big. Men's Ministries International has a mission and vision, to help men come to Christ.

Schools of Discipleship

Jeffrey P. Johnson, Instructor

mwcfmc@telepath.com

Jeff Johnson was born in Iowa and raised in Texas. He made a commitment to Jesus Christ at the age of 18 year during a revival meeting. He has served as a missionary to Asia, a church planter in Oklahoma. He currently is Superintendent of the Mid-America Conference, Senior Pastor of the Midwest City Free Methodist Church, and the Executive Director of Men's Ministries International. Jeff serves on the Board of Directors for Deaconess Hospital and Deaconess Foundation, as well as on the Board of Trustees for Central Christian College in Kansas, Mazzie Foundation, and Might River Ministries. He earned his Doctorate of Ministry from George Fox Evangelical Seminary. He married Yasmin Ramanayake in 1989. She serves as a professor of nursing at Oklahoma Baptist University.

The PURPOSE of SCHOOLS OF DISCIPLESHIP is to train pastors and lay people to disciple and mentor new believers in faith, spiritual disciplines, and daily interaction with the Holy Spirit.

 Sessions include:

• Introduction to the Spiritual Life
• Scriptural Images of Experienceing God
• Spiritual Formation in the Local Church
• Developing Theological Tools for Reflection and Growth

Spiritual formation is God working in and through a person's life. It is:

• Creating a space where love and faith can come together.
• Following Jesus Christ.
• Spirit-filled living that encompasses the heart, mind, soul, and senses.

The disciple can and must experience God. The Good News is, God comes and touches the very center of each disciple. Everything from that point ripples with grace.

To schedule a School of Discipleship with Jeff Johnson, call or email MMI office (800-342-5531 or MMIFM@fmcna.org). You may also contact Jeff Johnson at the email listed above.
