If
a Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words
HolyLandPhotos.org is an excellent resource for bringing a sermon to life or even for illuminating your daily Scripture-reading. According to the providers, "The purpose of HolyLandPhotos.org is to make images from the lands of the Bible available free to the general public." Purpose served. Chock full of photos taken on-site in Israel, Greece and Turkey and with new sites being added each week www.holylandphotos.org provides is a visual feast. And for dessert: you can download Power Point-ready photos with just a click of the mouse. Other treats include a search function and a page where you can personalize your preferences for how pages display photo and text size.
The site is the brainchild of Dr. Carl Rasmussen, professor of biblical studies at Bethel College and Seminary and former dean of the Institute of Holy Land Studies (now Jerusalem University College). He is the author of the award winning Zondervan NIV Atlas of the Bible. He has been teaching and guiding academic groups in the Middle East since 1973, from which he provides the majority of the digital images on the site. Rasmussen and Jesse Gavin a 2001 Bethel grad and the genius behind the site's fluid design and navigation maintain the site on a voluteer basis. Pictures are grouped according to site, and each picture is accompanied by a helpful, but short, description that is not intended to be exhaustive. For further study, Rasmussen provides a recommended reading list so you can dig deeper into the historical and biblical significance of these sites. HolyLandPhotos.org will change the way you read your Bible. Check it out today! |
