Advent Devotional
November 24th - December 28th, 2004

Winona Lake FMC (IN) has created a daily Advent devotional — and is excited about sharing it with individuals and churches everywhere. Pastor Doug Vogel has prayerfully selected a passage for each day of Advent (Nov. 28-Dec. 24) and “assigned” church members, former pastors, clergy and lay leaders throughout the denomination to write the daily entries.
Despite the hustle and bustle of the holiday season today, many Christian families still find quiet moments to light Advent wreath candles and read devotionals focused on Christ’s coming. Why not join them? Click here for a free PDF of the booklet for 2004.

Booklet Printing Instructions: Print page one of the PDF (the covers) alone. Next, print pages 2-19 front and back. (You may need to print all the even pages and then print the odd pages on the backs of them.) Attach the covers.

Five Tips for Developing a Devotional:

  • CLICK HERE to see the letter sent to contributing authors by Pastor Doug Vogel.
Start early (two months or more ahead of your target date — remember, you will need time to edit, collate, process, print, bind, distribute, etc.).
  • Select authors with care (2 Timothy 1:14, 2:15).
  • Prayerfully select passages (OT/NT mix if desired, use concordance for word study, choose a theme, etc.).
  • Choose an editor with an eye for detail (typing, spelling, grammar, punctuation, format). This may be the overall coordinator or someone else. (The overall coordinator should have solid Bible knowledge so he/she can review submissions for doctrinal correctness.)
  • Distribute to contributing authors, congregation and others (allowing mailing time if needed) so everybody has a copy in hand by the first Sunday of Advent (or Ash Wednesday for a Lenten devotional).
