A Year of Prayer
by Jim Elzerman

I began as editor of the Prayer Section one year ago. It has been a good year for me as I have focused my attention on prayer in a new way. It's been a challenge to find material to share every couple of weeks but exciting as well. I'd like to thank each one who contributed an article or responded to questions to provide the substance of the articles listed to the right of this column. If you haven't taken the time to read some of those past articles, I hope that you will take the time now. And take the time to get involved in some of the prayer opportunities that are on-going, such as PAPA3 and the Presidential Prayer Team. Or maybe you can start a "Prayer Partners" program in your local church.

Be in prayer for the 2003 General Conference and for our Bishops. And don't forget to pray for our Chaplains, those often-forgotten servants of Christ. Especially pray for our chaplains serving in the military in these uncertain times. While you're at it, pray for our children as Pastor Shin Asami so fittingly admonished in Prayer for Our Children, and for Doug and Margie Newton and the ministry of Mary's Place, and for those dedicated pastors who are serving in Urban Centers around the world.

I trust that you were or will be challenged by the articles on Fasting and Prayer by Pastor Mark Adams, Thoughts on Prayer from the Heart of a Pastor by Pastor Wilmer Olszewski, and Watch and Pray! by Pastor Sid Ogino. Two other of my favorite articles are Museum Piece by Pastor William Hughes and Try Praying the Principle by Pastor Mark Adams. They really make me stop and think about how I pray.

It always amazes me to see the ways that God answers our prayers. Besides the practical help in organizing our prayer lives shared by Betty Anibal in God-Directed Prayer, is the wonderful way that God answered prayer in her life, both for healing and also in redirecting her in a life-style change.

If you have an event or ministry devoted to prayer, or an account of how God has answered prayer, I would like to have an opportunity to include an article about it in the Prayer Section in 2003. You can contact me via email at: PastorJim@life-stream.org or by calling me at 616-454-2720. Thanks for taking the time to read the articles in the Prayer S
