THE
WAY OF THE CROSS
A reflective Via Dolorosa
walk
by John Hay,
Jr. (West Morris Street FMC, Indianapolis, IN)
The
Stations, or Way of the Cross, is an ancient method of meditating upon
Christ's Suffering and Death. Trace the path of Jesus from His condemnation
to His body being laid in a tomb. Bring your senses, and most of all your
heart, and walk the Way of the Cross. Take time to read, reflect, pray,
and/or sing. Reflect on what Jesus' journey to the cross means for you,
for all.

STATION
NINE:Jesus is stripped of His garments
Scripture: "When the soldiers crucified Jesus, they took his clothes,
dividing them into four shares, one for each of them, with the undergarment
remaining
and they cast lots for it." John 19:23-24
Reflection: What a pitiable spectacle is this shameful stripping
of Jesus! Ghastly wounds are re-opened. Blood flows afresh. His clothes
are divided among soldiers. And then his undergarment is gambled over.
Naked, bleeding, and humiliated - behold Your God!
Prayer: O Jesus, though I want to turn away from this sight in
my mind's eye, hold me fast to look upon You and know it is for the love
of me that You were so humiliated. And let thanksgiving arise in my heart!
Amen.
Song:
O sacred
Head, now wounded,
With grief and shame weighed down,
Now scornfully surrounded
With thorns, Thine only crown;
O sacred Head, what glory,
What bliss till now was Thine!
Yet, tho' despised and gory,
I joy to call Thee mine!
