THE WAY OF THE CROSS
A reflective Via Dolorosa walk
by John Hay, Jr. (West Morris Street FMC, Indianapolis, IN)

The Stations, or Way of the Cross, is an ancient method of meditating upon Christ's Suffering and Death. Trace the path of Jesus from His condemnation to His body being laid in a tomb. Bring your senses, and most of all your heart, and walk the Way of the Cross. Take time to read, reflect, pray, and/or sing. Reflect on what Jesus' journey to the cross means for you, for all.

STATION SIX: Jesus falls a second time

The early church passed along a remembrance of Jesus falling a second time along the way to Golgotha. His energy depleted from the heavy cross, he staggers underneath its weight. It is as if the cross were driving him into the ground.

Reflection: Is it not my feeble resolutions, my oft-repeated sins that have crushed Jesus to earth a second time? Such is the malice of habitual sin. They wound again and again.

Prayer: O Jesus, grant me true repentance. Let me die a thousand times rather than have the misfortune to fall again into sin! Help me to hate all sin and love You, my Savior, my Redeemer. Amen.

Song:
He took my sins and my sorrows;
He made them His very own.
He bore the burden to Calv'ry,
And suffered and died alone.

How marvelous, How wonderful!
And my song shall ever be:
How marvelous, How wonderful!
Is my Savior's love for me!
