THE WAY OF THE CROSS
A reflective Via Dolorosa walk
by John Hay, Jr. (West Morris Street FMC, Indianapolis, IN)

The Stations, or Way of the Cross, is an ancient method of meditating upon Christ's Suffering and Death. Trace the path of Jesus from His condemnation to His body being laid in a tomb. Bring your senses, and most of all your heart, and walk the Way of the Cross. Take time to read, reflect, pray, and/or sing. Reflect on what Jesus' journey to the cross means for you, for all.

STATION ONE: Jesus is condemned to death

Scripture: "When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. 'I am innocent of this man's blood,' he said. 'It is your responsibility.' All the people answered, 'Let his blood be upon us and on our children!' Then he released Barabbas to them. But he had Jesus flogged and handed him over to be crucified." Matthew 27:24-26

Reflection: Pontius Pilate dares to condemn the all-holy Savior to death. No, not Pilate; but my sins have condemned Jesus to be crucified.

Prayer: O Jesus, have mercy on me. I recall now that You chose to die that I may have eternal life. Let me so live that when I come to die I may find You a most merciful Judge, an all-loving Redeemer. Amen.

Song:
"Man of Sorrows!" what a name
For the Son of God, who came
Ruined sinners to reclaim!
Hallelujah, what a Savior!

Bearing shame and scoffing rude,
In my place condemned he stood-
Sealed my pardon with His blood:
Hallelujah, what a Savior!
