Christian Parish Nursing Council
Several years ago, a small group of nurses became very interested in parish nursing, but were concerned about the growing prevalence of the New Age and postmodern philosophies that were creeping into this movement. These nurses shared a Wesleyan-Arminian background, coming from the Free Methodist, Nazarene and Wesleyan denominations.
They wanted to find a way to practice a holistic approach to congregational health that also followed biblical principles. And so, in April 2004, the Christian Parish Nursing Council (CPNC) was formed.
An area of growing concern in congregational health is the health of our pastors. They are stressed, constantly busy, facing demands from multiple sectors as well as the myriad temptations that can accompany this kind of frantic-paced lifestyle. How can we as congregational health nurses help our pastors deal with these areas?
A major area of emphasis for the CPNC is to promote networking among nurses working in congregations in these denominations, and a sharing of load between these nurses and their pastors.
So the idea was formed to debut the CPNC at a fall conference, inviting nurses and pastors from all over the U.S. to come together for a day and a half of education, networking, fellowship, worship and transformation.
