A Time for Reflection
by Willie Kirchhofer, assoc. pastor, Crossroads FMC (Clifton, NJ)

Snow. Ice. A cold wind that penetrates right down to your bones.

Winter.

A time of hibernation, a time to slow down. A time to sit in your favorite armchair with a cup of hot chocolate and a blanket over your legs.

Winter.

A time to reflect, to think about your life — where you have been, what you have experienced, where you are headed. What have been your disappointments, your failures, your frustrations? Where have you experienced joy and meaning in your life? What are your dreams and hopes for the future?

Winter.

A time to listen. To quiet yourself and hear the voice of God again. What is He saying to you? Where is He calling you? What changes in the course of your life is He asking you to make?

Winter.

A time of evaluation before the first buds of new life start poking up through the ground in spring.

Psalm 46:10 calls to each of us this winter:

"Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth."
