Wesley in their pursuit of a Christ like life and ministry.

Church: Lakeview FMC, Seattle, WA
Place
of birth: Wessington Springs, SD
How
affiliated with the FMC?
I'm a member of the Lakeview FM Church. I am serving on its Official
Board and as a lay Delegate to the Pacific Northwest Annual Conference.
I also had the privilege of serving as a reserve lay delegate to
the last General Conference. I am active on a number of projects
that are affiliated with the Pacific Northwest Conference. Most
of them have to do with social justice and service to the poor and
disenfranchised.
Reasons
for serving on SCOD: I have a sense of wanting to be of help
and assistance to my local church, my conference, and the denomination
as much as possible. When I was asked to serve as one of the lay
delegates on SCOD, my first reaction was surprise. While any college
professor has extensive experience working on committees, I don't
have a background in theology or church doctrine. On reflection
though, I felt that if my church saw fit to call me to this service,
that I should accept it if at all possible.
Education:
I have a B.S. in Ed. from Greenville College in Greenville, IL;
an M.S. in Educational Psychology from Wichita State University
in Wichita, KS; and a Ph.D. in Special Education from The University
of Kansas in Lawrence, KS.
Employment:
I work for Seattle Pacific University where I am employed as an
Associate Professor of Education, and the Assistant Dean for Teacher
Education in the School of Education.
Family:
I am married to Rhonda (nee Kugler). We have two children: Karly
and Kerri.
Comments:
I have a deep sense of the importance of the issues being discussed
by the SCOD during this round of meetings. In some ways, the recommendations
coming from this group could reshape the face of the denomination.
We are considering what being a "deacon" should mean in
the Free Methodist Church. We are also considering what kind of
vows an Elder should take at his/her ordination. These issues have
the potential for profound change. I have a keen sense of my own
inadequacy in dealing with these issues. Please join me in praying
that the SCOD will sense God's presence in its work, that it will
be blessed with God's own wisdom and discernment, and that the recommendations
that come forward from SCOD will serve to unify the denomination
behind God's own mission for us.
