January 5 - Mud slides in Venezuela have destroyed thousands of homes and killed thousands of people. Bishop Roger Haskins requested The Fund to make a grant to the Maturin Free Methodist Church. Members will collect food and closing donated by the Venezuelan people, and will transport them to needy areas. $4,500

 

February 11 - Bishop Leslie Krober called from Mozambique where torrential rains were causing the worst flood in 100 years, destroying bridges, roads and homes. Five conference superintendents could not attend the celebration of becoming a General Conference. Emergency funds needed immediately.

April 10 - Missions Director Henry Church reported that the entire water system at the Lundi Mission in Zimbabwe was out because of flooding and help was needed to make repairs.

April 22 - Bishop Bya'ene asked for food for Burundi refugees in Tanzania. Missionary Jim Stillman will oversee the distribution.

April 27 - Because of no rain in three years, crops have failed in the Bugesera area of Rwanda and some Free Methodists are starving. Missionary Phyllis Sorter asks for a truckload of beans and rice.

May 4 - Crops were destroyed and homes and churches were under water in the Philippines. Philippine Free Methodists collected funds, food and clothing. Bishop Jim Tuan reported the need.

May 15 - Pastor Baraza of Kenya asked for funds to buy beans and rice for 6,000 needy Free Methodists in Kenya.

July 6 - New work in Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia is expanding. Dr. Tim Teusink reported on Ethiopian Humanitarian Project for a select village to make the area self-sufficient by providing food, water wells and an agricultural teaching program.

September 8 - As a result of fighting between rebels and government soldiers, 600 Free Methodists from Gishingano and Gasenyi, Burundi, left their homes. Bishop Buconyori asked for help in providing shelter, food and medicine.

September 27 - Missionaries Paul Guazon and Polly Ho needed rice for Free Methodist flood victims in Cambodia. Bishop Joseph James requested The Fund to make a grant.

October 12 - Church leader Narendra John reported 20 families had lost everything because of flooding in India.

October 17 - Bishop Buconyori of Burundi asked for help in providing food and blankets for displace people near FM mission stations, and to relocate Rev. Nzigo, a Burundi refugee now in Nairobi, back to Bujumbura to provide additional leadership.
