CUE Conference Set for April in Kansas City Register Now!
"Break Through!" is the theme for the April 27-29 CUE (Continental Urban Exchange) conference in Kansas City, KS. Sponsored by the Free Methodist Urban Fellowship (FMUF), the conference will bring together leaders from the United States and Canada who are interested in urban ministry. According to the FMUF president, Pastor Lieut Curry, this year's theme suggests "the power of God to break through barriers: language, social, racial, economic, worship in order to see His will accomplished." This year's CUE conference has a special attraction for those involved in bilingual ministry, as the featured speaker is Pastor Mercedes Reynoso, church planter and superintendent of the Free Methodist Church's Puerto Rico Mission District. Other major speakers include Curry (sponsoring pastor from International Christian Center in Kansas City) and Pastor Howard Olver of Kingsview Free Methodist Church, Toronto, Canada. The conference begins with dinner and worship on Wednesday evening and concludes with a Friday-evening rally. The daily schedule includes seminars, workshops, ministry reports and an optional inner-city visit. The FMUF was born in the 1970s when Free Methodist urban pastors and lay workers began collaborating for mutual support, coming together for a spring conference, CUE -- which has continued as an annual event to the present. Current FMUF officers include Curry; Pastor Kathy Callahan-Howell (Cincinnati, OH), vice president; and U. Milo Kaufmann (Urbana, IL), secretary-treasurer. At-large coordinating council members are Pastor Rick Russell (Madras, OR), Pastor Bruce Renfroe (Wheaton, IL) and Pastor Alma Cordova (Waukegan, IL).
