At an early sitting of the Gateway
Conference held on Thursday evening, February 9, the body elected the first
woman as conference superintendent in
American Free Methodism.
The Ministerial Education and Guidance Board nominated the Rev. Lucia
Delamarter and she was elected by ballot
for a four-year term.
Lucia was born to Bob and Gayla Green in Seattle during the time that her father was finishing his college work at
Seattle Pacific College.
It was during her high school years in McPherson, Kan., that Lucia became Sunday evening pianist at the McPherson FMC. The love affair with the local church has continued through every job available to a lay person: nursery, children’s ministries, junior high leadership, choir, organist, part-time office worker,
teaching adult Sunday school and Bible studies.

Following seminary graduation and ordination, Lucia became senior pastor of the FMC at Everett, Wash., where she is completing a nine-year tenure.
Prior to becoming senior pastor, she was staff pastor at Everett for two years and prior to going to Everett, she was assistant pastor at Eastside FMC in Bellevue, Wash., for four years. She has also served as assistant to the superintendent for four years.
The first official activity for Superintendent Delamarter will be to meet with the pastors on Saturday, March 18.
