Geoff Smith

Geoff Smith comes from a long line of musicians. His brother and sister both played with the likes of Tony Bennett, Andy Williams and Chuck Mongione, and his father was Musical Advisor to the King of Morocco. By age, 20, Geoff Smith, an artist on the string bass, electric bass and Chapman Stick was performing throughout North America. Venues for Geoff include, playing before President Ronald Wilson Reagan, Yankee Stadium New York and Canadian National Exhibition Toronto. To further broaden his focus, Geoff has worked in prisons and the inner city. Due to his deep spiritual commitment, Geoff and his wife Marie moved to Moscow, where they assisted in the creation of a recording studio and music ministry training centre. After Russia, Geoff returned to Toronto where he worked on a project called Midtown and then traceelements.ca. Today, from Geoff's base just outside of Ottawa, he works on his latest project, Smith & Doornekamp.

Kathy Doornekamp

Music has always been a passion for Kathy Doornekamp, a sustaining and stabilizing force in her life. Although trained as a vocalist, she enjoys turning her hand to keyboards and strings. She has been a voice teacher and choral director for many years, and now with 'Smith and Doornekamp', takes a more personal approach to her music. Kathy's honest and contemplative lyrics reflect the ongoing journey of her strong Christian faith. She lives north of Kingston, Ontario on the edge of the rugged Canadian Shield where she shares a country farmhouse with her husband and four children.

It was in late 2002 when we began working together to create our own unique musical expressions of faith and life. Though music has always played a big role in both of our lives, the unique music of ‘Smith and Doornekamp’ offers us a new opportunity to express our hearts. What is at the core of our music? - it is our heart-felt belief that Christ really lived and walked on this earth, that He died, and rose to life again - and that He makes healing, wholeness and purpose available to us, and to all who look for Him. So whether our music speaks overtly or subtly about faith, it is the underlying theme of all our music. Our faith has changed the course of our lives, it shapes our world view, and our heart’s desire is to share it with those around us as well. Our music speaks honestly of both the good and bad times in life, and chronicles an honest quest to make sense of a world that leaves God largely out of the equation.

Smith & Doornekamp are an official ministry of Westport Free Methodist Church (Westport Ontario, CAN).
