FMs in the Arts - Music
Todd Carter Koeppen — Tacoma, WA

Todd Carter Koeppen has been making music since his mom caught him "playing" the piano at age 3. His songs are "scripturally based and prophetically driven," with lyrics performed over a blend of rock and world music that maintains a broad pop appeal. He and his backup crew of five are The Big World Band, together two years now and currently working on a new project and a Christmas CD. Todd is also the Worship Leader at Tacoma First FMC.

Carter Koeppen was featured in the News Section of the March/April 2004 issue of Light & LIfe magazine.

Musician Todd Carter Koeppen leads worship at Tacoma First Free Methodist (Tacoma, WA). He's also created five CDs, two of them specifically designed to raise funds for FM missions work in Southeast Asia.

Todd's latest CD release is "Catch Me." It is a worship album of a different ilk. While it offers a number of hook-laden, radio-ready worship songs, the heart of the album lies in the tracks where Todd hearkens back to his singer-songwriter roots as he takes you around the world to tell stories of the Kingdom in action. True stories from China, India, Cambodia and The Philippines take listeners on an emotional roller coaster, as Todd tries to hammer home the idea that worship is manifested in action.

Below are some comments from Todd on how the Lord has specifically used a few of the tracks on "Catch Me."

God is doing great things with the CD. He's really speaking to people through one of the tracks, "Where Were You". When we were putting this song together, we envisioned it would be a tool God would use to motivate complacent Christians to more fully chase after God's call. God has amazed us by using it to cause one fence-sitting seeker to accept Christ, and, in another instance, to cause a couple that was in the middle of divorce filings to get back together, turn back to God and return to church. These are the two stories we've heard in the first two months of the release, and it's been a cause of much joy for all the musicians involved in the project.

Another song on the album, "Back to Jerusalem", tells of the trials faced by members of the Chinese House Church movement and their call/goal to evangelize the rest of Asia. An interesting development with this song is that it has been adopted as an anthem by the leaders of the Back to Jerusalem movement. They've posted the lyrics and a link to the song on their website. George Carden from United News International is going to be interviewing me this Friday for a news story on the song.

We're also getting great response from people who love the song "Sinj Went Runnin'", which tells the true story of an 8-year-old Cambodian orphan who runs from his life in a Buddhist monestary to accept Christ at the House of Love (Our Free Methodist Child Care International outreach building located near Phnom Phen, Cambodia). We're hoping that this song will show listeners what a tremendous difference a sponsorship through Child Care International can make in the life of a child. We're also working on developing a "Sinj Went Runnin'" children's book to drive the message home even further.
