You Came
There was a silent night,
A silver star,
A cold, still sky,
A sweet baby's cry;
You came,
You reached,
You wailed,
Your love prevailed,
Over all who tired to stop your coming,
And you living,
And your dying,
You conquered all fear, and selfishness,
and misunderstanding,
And you came;
Into a world without light or life
And gave us yours,
All of yours.
On the cross
You reached,
You wailed,
Your love prevailed.
You conquered all sin and temptation
And you came
To the pit of death
For what I have done.
But then
You reached across the barrens
You wailed to wake the grave
Your love prevailed over death's sting
You conquered all of hell's chains
And you came!
Out of the tomb!
And brought hope to a room
Full of frightened disciples
Who reached out their hands to touch you
And wailed in both shock and delight
For Your love and Your life have prevailed
And You still conquer all
We can rejoice because You came!
