Daring Faith Steps Out in Tucson

“It’s important for us to be here … and to be strong,” says Pastor Mark Parsons, Tucson Light & Life (AZ). “But in order to grow, we’ve had to change,” he adds, referring to the church’s unanimous vote earlier this year to sell their building and relocate to a rapidly growing southeastern section of the city.
To make the move a reality — and a success for everyone in the church and those yet to be reached for Christ — Parsons has called the congregation to faith, prayer, Full Story...

Miraculous Healings in the U.K.

Wednesdays just aren’t the same anymore. That’s because every Tuesday — for four years now — Renewal Christian Centre (Solihull, England) gathers for prayer. The direct result: dramatic healings from cancers, skin diseases, spinal and heart conditions and depression — all confirmed by doctors and surgeons. According to Pastor David Carr, physicians have made comments such as, “I am not a Christian, but my patient who was acutely ill last Friday is [now] whole — is this Full Story...

Bulging Baby Bottles!

The Free Methodist Church of Greensburg (PA) filled baby bottles to overflowing with change to raise funds for the Latrobe Life-Way Pregnancy Center. More than $200 was garnered for the ministry that reached more than 500 last year — presenting the gospel to clients in difficult circumstances. The new funds will allow the introduction of abstinence programs in local schools and small groups. Full Story...

D.C. Church Without Walls

New Vision in the City, an FMC plant in Washington, D.C., is quite literally a church without walls, where reaching the lost in one of the capital’s toughest neighborhoods and beyond is a welcome challenge for the gifted and enthusiastic Oren and Joan Harris. Beginning in June 2003, outreach to the Kenilworth area of the city involved knocking on apartment doors, giving away school supplies and turkeys and extending innumerable

Indiana's Bedford Team Repeats as Bible Quizzing Grand Champs

Some 700 Bible quizzers and coaches on 155 teams from the United States and Mexico gathered at Michigan’s Spring Arbor University (SAU) June 28-July 2 for one of the largest-ever Bible Quiz Finals. For the second year in a row, Bedford, IN, was crowned grand champion for winning the Senior Teen Veteran A division. Seven were inducted into the Bible Quizzing Hall of Fame, including Stanley Thompson (Free Methodist Foundation’s founder), Full Story...

Blessed Transplant

Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis is a big medical term — one that presented even bigger challenges to Pastor Paul Amstutz and his congregation at Princeton FMC (WV). After he’d suffered for more than five years from pain in his midsection, doctors finally diagnosed the problem: his kidney filters were closing up and shutting down. The disease (which began with a virus) resulted in eight days in the hospital last year alone and regular doses of Full Story...

Not-So-Ugly Duckling

Shoreline FMC (WA) is home to talented Brian Earp, a recent Shorecrest High School graduate who’s delaying plans to attend Yale University for a year in order to do an internship at Seattle Children’s Theatre. Stage veteran Earp recently starred as the Ugly Duckling in the high school’s production of the award-winning HONK! The Ugly Duckling Musical and this summer as Seymour Krelbourn in Little Shop of Horrors at Village Theatre. Full Story...

Unintentional but Powerful

Being very intentionally unintentional is the key to growth at Cross Creek FMC (Palmyra, NY) where Pastor David Prince shepherds a flock that serves this largely rural community with more than 20 ministries. All this in spite of the personal challenges he and his family face. Linda Prince was diagnosed with an aggressive form of multiple sclerosis soon after their daughter Jessica’s birth eight years ago; 13-year-old Jake is retarded. Full Story...

Planting and Harvesting in Cleveland

Bearing fruit on all fronts, FM pastor José Reyes of Nueva Vida Cleveland (OH) also runs an insurance agency and has planted three other Hispanic FM churches in Ohio: Nueva Vida Lorain, Nueva Vida Toledo and Nueva Vida Bainsville (just opened this September). Despite hearing God’s clear calling to full-time ministry, Reyes also repeatedly hears fellow business leaders in Cleveland begging him not to quit. (Not to mention the fact that a number of Nueva Vida families initially Full Story...

SPU Honors Special Graduate

At its June 12 commencement Seattle Pacific University (SPU) awarded 90-year-old Zhou Enying (Class of ’43) an honorary doctorate of humane letters. Abandoned as an infant in China, adopted, raised by pioneer Free Methodist missionary Edith Francis Jones and given the English name Lora Jones, Enying (who prefers to use her Chinese name) came to the United States at age 24 to attend Seattle Pacific. After graduating with a degree in religion, she declined Full Story...

Decorating Miss Daisy

Twelve first-grade Brownies and their leaders at Sugar Grove FMC (PA) hand painted one of 50 5-foot fiberglass bear sculptures under the direction of a local artist. Healthy Communities/Healthy Youth organized the “Bear Affair” in Warren County to foster healthy lifestyles among young people. Daisy (named for Juliette “Daisy” Gordon Low, Girl Scouts’ founder) graced the foyer and halls at Sugar Grove for several months and now stands, in all her beauty, near the Full Story...

Leadership God's Way: Mentoring Our 'Samuels'

Concern over what he sees as a leadership vacuum in the Free Methodist Church — and the very real danger of diluting our theological heart — three years ago led Gateway’s Superintendent Dale Winslow to create a program for identifying, mentoring and placing young leaders. “One of our main jobs as leaders,” says Winslow, “is to identify the disciples around our feet. We don’t want to be like sleepy-eyed Eli who failed to assist Samuel — until he finally realized Full Story...
