Building for the Future

Davison FMC: Reaching Out — Building Up — Together |
With its emphasis on reaching out and building people up in Christ, Davison FMC (MI) has grown by more than 200 worshipers over the past three years. Currently, weekly attendance averages 400; more than 500 have been impacted by the church’s ministries.
One creative, effective outreach has been Davison’s women’s inspirational luncheon, a monthly event that draws between 50 and 60 to a local restaurant, where relationships are forged through discussing issues impacting women’s lives.
Several work teams from the church have assisted with Katrina relief efforts, and short-term missions teams are helping construct a church in the Dominican Republic. “These ministries have exposed our people to the difficulties others face,” says Pastor Brad Button. “Such experiences have influenced our hearts.”
Davison also has a growing mid-week program that offers a classical worship service and Life Group studies for all ages. “We’re a church of four generations committed to doing God’s work together,” says Button. “We believe that living a holy life comes with risks. Our faith is being stretched as we seek to minister to the needs of a growing and diverse body and beyond.”
In May, the church completed its Journey by Faith campaign, exceeding its fundraising goal of $750,000. “The congregation committed $830,000 toward making improvements to our facility,” says Button. Parking-area expansion has begun, and plans are underway to enlarge ministry facilities for all ages.
“Like many churches, we are faced with the task of mobilizing volunteers and raising up leaders,” says Button. “But we’re thankful for the challenges we have.
“God’s been incredibly kind to us,” he adds. “We’re building on a long-standing heritage and excited for what the future holds.”
