OMS grant underwrites sound recording studio
Light and Life Bible Fellowship (Olympia, WA) will soon open a state-of-the-art sound recording studio, thanks in part to a One More Soul grant. “The studio will open an incredible door,” says Pastor Larry Rogers. The studio will provide area churches with a place to make quality recordings, and will also be open to secular musicians and bands with names like Year of the Shake Rat (who had, by invitation, been holding practice sessions in the church’s sanctuary before their lead guitarist left the group). A wide variety of styles and sounds are expected to be on the recording schedule, with some constraints on lyrics and a studio name that will clearly reflect the fact that this is ministry/outreach of the church. A portion of the grant money has also undergirded Light and Life’s video tech ministry, offering high-quality video filming and editing. “You don’t have to be a Christian to come, learn and use the equipment,” says Rogers. Because Olympia is one of the most liberal cities in Washington state, ministries like these afford an excellent opportunity to reach out in a nonthreatening way and draw people into the love of Jesus through interaction with His people on His turf, so to speak. Also supported in part by OMS grant monies is Families 101, a ministry aimed at building strong families and raising up leaders and mentors for marriage and family ministries. The church also reaches out through participation in a sack lunch distribution program, a cancer support group, a drama ministry and by “adopting” struggling churches and seeking to restore them to health and growth. Olympia Light and Life has experienced 10 percent growth in the past year and expects the new recording studio to further add to the kingdom. Musicians have already come to know the Lord through their use of the sanctuary. |
