Naturally supernatural

Prophetic evangelism reaches out to the community.

Pastor David Hino likes to ask questions. “What would happen if a group of people were desperate to see God’s Spirit move in supernatural miracles? What would happen if we allowed God to work as He did in the Bible?”

When the superintendent of the Pacific Coast Japanese Conference and his wife Sharon felt a call to start a church in Long Beach, CA, they left the superintendency and entered into a partnership with Pastor Larry Walkemeyer of Light & Life Christian Fellowship (in the Southern California Conference). The new church is called The Light.

Pastor Hino.

“We decided to set no limits on the Holy Spirit and see where He will take us,” says Hino. “We believe it is possible to confront our doubts and unbelief,” he adds. “We can find our true identity and birthright in God. And we can experience His divine promises.”

The new congregation holds pre-celebration services on Saturday nights at Walkemeyer’s church. They have also engaged in “prophetic evangelism,” visiting malls and parks in small groups with the aim of meeting strangers. “Would you like to have an encouraging word today?” they ask. A surprising number say yes. One team member prays as one or more of the others connect and converse. “We just want to bless you,” they say. The responses are priceless. Potentially life-changing.

Beautiful banners enhance the worship experience at The Light.

Members of The Light pray a lot. They’ve experienced miraculous healings and answers to petitions. They are learning about prayer as a lifestyle, not a method. And they are learning how dreams can be messages from God. (Hino and others are studying dream interpretation.) Through it all, they are drawing closer to the Lord, to the Light.

Saturday services are special times. During worship, some members wave banners as they celebrate lives being radically transformed. Together they are finding the answers to their questions. And best of all, they’re only beginning to move naturally in the supernatural.
